The Janghang Wetlands, a protected area of about 7.6 km, is the only area amongst the four major rivers in Korea that is not blocked by a dam, showing a variety of biological ecosystems through the convergence of river and sea water. For many years, civilian access has been banned, so it remains in its pristine natural state. There are 145 recorded species of plants and large-scale willow tree communities, including weeping willows, narrow-leaved cat-tail, lesser bulrush, small reed-mace, and 65 species of animals, including the natural monument common kestrel and the white tail eagle. In winter, more than 20,000 white-naped cranes, bean geese, mallards and other winter birds make a spectacular appearance. You can make reservations by contacting the Goyang City Environmental Protection Department to visit this place if you have an ecological experience program.
